Stove and Music

Dive into the world of Stove with behind the scenes content in the form of photos, videos, and stories about the tracks you love!

Who is Stove?

My name is Steven Nowakowski, and I am a 30-something musician from Chicago, Illinois. I sing and play a variety of instruments, including but not limited to: guitar, bass, piano, and drums.

From 2009-2014 I played music around the Chicagoland area as both a solo act, and with bands. Some previous groups were Steven Nowakowski Music, Quiet Out Loud, and Good Times Gone. During this tenure, I was fortunate enough to open for other amazing artists and groups like, Aaron Carter, All Time Low, Cartel, Mayday Parade, New Found Glory, to name a few.

Ultimately, as time went on, I started to create music for the wrong reasons. I lost all joy and passion I had for it, so I quit. Between 2014 and 2016 I slowly and surely retired from the Chicago Music Scene. Fast forward 10 years, and life sure is different. After plenty of soulsearching and finally surrounding myself with the right people, I found myself rediscovering passion for many things, including music. I rediscovered what exactly it was that I loved about writing, performing, and spreading music into the world. So here we are! 10 years later, back and ready to share some new music with the world!

Yellow Umbrella

Yellow Umbrella is the first single by Stove, available everywhere music is sold January 25, 2025.

The story of Yellow Umbrella is an emotional one. In October of 2022, a very dear friend of mine, and fellow musician, passed away. Throughout our friendship, I would constantly associate her with the TV show, How I Met Your Mother. A constant theme throughout this show, is the Yellow Umbrella, used constantly to symbolize hope and how life can give you everything you want if you just hold onto hope.

My song is written from that hopeful and positive celebration of life; a song for my friend reflecting on the friendship we did have, as well as methaphorically toasting to the moments we didn't get.

Villain

Villain is the second single by Stove, available everywhere music is sold April 11, 2025.

The story of Villain is much more cut and dry than the previous single. We've all had our fare share of problems and dramas in our life, and this song is based on situations I've been through where I personally felt like I was made out to be the Villain, whether deserved or not.
